anxiety

Identifying the problem is the first step to any solution.

Anxiety and depression are getting more and more common nowadays.

It is for sure a big and hot topic in this generation.

Have you ever wondered sometimes about why anxiety and depression have become a huge trend in this generation?

I mean, if we go back to the 1980s down to the 1990s, this mental health problem was never a huge issue as compared to how big it is now.

Looking at my mom and the kind of person she is and how resilient she has been when it comes to overcoming life battles and physical and emotional issues way back,

especially those days when we were still young and she had to carry us through?

I couldn't imagine how a Gen Z or even a millennial mom could even face those struggles without posting it on social media like a crybaby trying to get people's sympathy and express how she or he feels overwhelmed.

Perhaps if my mom had a social media account and if we were to bring back the old times and bring those moments of hardship on social media,

it would definitely gain millions of viewers with me being the narrator of what's going on and how she overcame those giants.

A little background, by the way, my mom now is not my biological mother but she's been with us since I was still 3.

She is married to my real dad and bore 4 more children.

My dad is honestly not the ideal man a woman would want to marry, other than he has great looks. (I'm not trying to degrade my dear papa who never left me; I'm just being really honest here.)

I know my dad is not as emotionally strong or resilient, not as hardworking, nor even willing to sacrifice his body and morale finding any job just to raise his kids.

No, none of that, and he has a pretty closed mind, like if a job is not for him,

he wouldn't do anything about it and would rather be hungry instead.

He was quite an irresponsible dad to his other 4 children and wife way back.

I'm not here to judge him; I'm stating the facts based on real-life events.

I really love my dad to the moon and back; he's the first person and I guess still the same person who loves me like no other in this world ever, and yes, I'm his favorite.

But, I really feel bad about my stepmom; it feels like she carried the whole family all to herself in terms of financial and emotional problems.

Plus, she still has to worry about my dad, who tends to be so picky with food and has some gambling and smoking vices that need to be maintained.

Not to mention, he has a really hot temper, especially when he has nothing to buy a stick of cigarettes for.

Man, don't even mention him caring about mom's emotional or mental needs because he wasn't built up to even care for any of that. (ugh!)

Feeling bad for my stepmom, I tried to fill in what my dad failed to do and provide for his new family.

I guess you really can't change how someone has been programmed to function all his life.

He had such an easy, happy-go-lucky life.

being able to buy the food he likes, the pleasure of this world and everything he wanted when he was younger,

He was a great dancer and very handsome, and women back then were so into him, they’d pay for him and even support him.

Hence, he was so used to being provided for and getting great things in life.

But all of that changed when he mismanaged his great earnings from being a longtime dance instructor.

Later on, he got older and stopped dancing because he felt insecure about his age.

Now, mom has to carry so much on her own, and she had experience fatal illness quite few times but carried on anyway beacuse of faith!

Yes she was healed, because on her mind, she can't afford to leave the young kids, for who will be there for all of us if she gives up?

Man, I just realize how strong human brains are!

It definitely can move mountains if we know how to use it.

Problems for my mom back then were not able to pursue her; she pursued living

and overcoming for her kids because in her mind,

she had no choice but to overcome and make it happen!

But this right here is just one of the many amazing stories about how the mind can alter obstacles that are telling you it's time to give up because problems are big and you are too small.

Nowadays, it's hard to find someone who is as resilient as my mom or our moms, right?

This story alone and many others prove that it's all about the mind, our perspectives in life, our faith, and our willingness to challenge the challenges.

Let no one tell you, you are limited and that certain small problem is a big problem and you couldn't overcome.

Instead of feeding yourself stories of those crybabies from social media, you might as well choose the channels that uplift your spirit to having a strong and positive mind.

And I am a strong believer that we are what we feed ourselves with.

If you feed yourself with fear and anxiety through social media,

if you don't allow yourself to grow by beating the challenges,

don't ask me why many of us nowadays are so weak.

Now, I'm not saying to go find a weak partner so you can be strong.

Choose your battle wisely!

That being said, here are the top 3 reasons why this generation is more prone to anxiety and depression:

Current Generations’ baby mindset

Because of the fast-paced life in the technology era,

Everything seems so fast and convenient.

Now we have created a generation who are so used to convenience and comfort zones.

So,

whenever they experience little pain or discomfort,

most of them tend to react easily

and negatively to the situation

as if it was the end of the world now,

and as if they don’t have patience at all.

Come on,

It may just be a bad day, but never a bad life at all.

Most youngsters now are making a big deal

out of a simple concern such as

being scolded or corrected by the teacher.

The next day,

you can hear that

They are depressed because of it.

Having said that,

Youngsters nowadays,

easily get upset,

when facing small difficulties in life,

They expect everything to be so easy

and comfortable

and

out of reach

ALL THE TIME!

But we all know life doesn’t work that way.

Like reaching a dream, it can’t be done overnight.

Now because of the life’s convenience we all experience,

Most youngsters nowadays

missed developing their emotional quotient and

never learned the art of resilience.

And you may think this is not directly about anxiety,

But it is.

Because of the great impatience,

Youngsters tend to feel automatically hopeless.

people in the past;

1. mostly used to life’s inconveniences.

1. Accept that life is hard in general.

1. not as entitled

Here’s a simple good tip that we can use

Which my mom used to tell me growing up,

“We must understand,

that in life,

we have to carry on.

no matter

what happens.

Always be grateful.

Accept what you can’t do.

And work on what you can.”

Quitting immediately

was not a popular option back then,

rather,

because of life’s hardships,

many people in the past

We're always used to finding ways

and

making …

something …

work!

Now this observation is only about the majority of people.

I understand that despite this modern era,

there are still youngsters who have a different and great point of view in life

and has a strong mindset.

But if everybody can be more optimistic,

And try to strengthen their minds.

by embracing optimism

and be more accepting of life’s struggles,

We can definitely become less prone to anxiety and depression.

And this applies to everyone.

not only youngsters.

Being Too Fearful

Self-instilled fear is an unhealthy habit. Some people tend to focus on the worst-case scenario even before it will ever happen.

A Stoic philosopher and a prominent Roman philosophical figure, Seneca,

once said,

“We suffer more in imagination than in reality.”

For sure, we’re experiencing more traumatic events nowadays.

Not only more but quite consecutive world or social traumatic events.

For sure these are inevitable.

But as a passage from a song says,

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

There’s no other way but to be greater than our life’s obstacles.

So,

Fear

Is worse than any

Other viruses.

It kills us softly and slowly.

And you see,

No one

And nothing

can inject this into us,

but ourselves also.

Having a toxic mind that always thinks negatively

It is already a self-injected virus

that is trying to kill us internally.

Being too fearful won’t get us anywhere.

It can actually trigger other body illnesses.

other than anxiety.

Not to be sound religious here,

but now realizing all these,

the Bible was truly right when it said,

“We live by faith, not by sight.”

Because truly,

If you come to realize,

We can think of all the worst scenarios that may happen

to us anytime.

But because we live by faith,

We will all continue living every day with

A peaceful and grateful heart.

Drop the FEAR.

Drop it!
